A Little About Me…

Greetings!

DS_About_me1My name is DeWayne A. Smith, and I hold a Master’s of Science in Exercise Science and Health Promotion with an emphasis in Sport Psychology from the California University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelors of Science in Athletic Training and Sports Medicine from Concord University in West Virginia. In 2003, I decided to become a fitness professional because it went hand in hand with my major and my interest in sports performance, plus, I needed a summer job! I absolutely enjoyed it, and since then, I’ve committed myself to staying on the forefront of understanding the fitness demands of the human body. To meet this commitment, I stay certified through the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, National Strength & Conditioning Association, and National Academy of Sports Medicine as ATC, NASM CPT, CES, PES, and FNS (plus a few more).

My Career

I’ve been in the fitness and health industry for over 8 years now. Most recently, I was on the Product and Content Development Team at the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Working there, I was given the opportunity to give back to the community by developing educational products and creating content for all of you! This ranged from simple things like answering thousands of questions for Sharecare.com as a subject matter expert, to developing an entire specialization course, keeping up with social engagement via Facebook and Twitter, and much more. I truly enjoyed my work there, but unfortunately during July of 2012, almost the entire Content Development Team was laid-off. We weren’t bad at what we did. As a matter of fact, we were all-stars, producing the most courses and content in company history in just a 2 year period, and bringing a culture to the company that will forever remain un-paralleled. The people I worked with very closely, became a part of my extended family, and will always remain as such.

At the beginning of 2013, I made a career change, and moved into the field of Instructional Design. This was a very tough choice for me, because it felt as if I would abandon my knowledge and experience. Then, I had an “aha” moment, and realized this website was how I could  maintain some of my identity with Health and Fitness. In essence, putting my knowledge to use as a hobby versus a career!

My Hobbies

For fun and recreation, I train and race in triathlons, both locally, and throughout the world! It’s a passion of mine that coincides with what I love to do for a living. My favorite distance in the sport is Half Ironman, and my favorite discipline is definitely NOT the swim! Another hobby I’ve recently started pursuing is photography. One weekend, I was handed an expensive camera, and asked to figure it out. I did so, and ended up gaining a new, albeit expensive hobby.

My Concept

I conceptualized this website after I saw scores of other fitness related websites that either lacked quality design, or most of all – understandable, well laid out content. It is my mission to have fitness-for-everyone.com bring you high quality, understandable, fitness related content with a great design and layout. This site will take a good while to get together, so please bear with me for now. In the end, you’ll have blog content galore, product reviews, and much much more.
